Hands-on help with the computers you already have, for people and small offices around Northwest Indiana. We come to you, or work remotely when that suits better.
What it is
Everyday help with the computers you already have. Setting up a new machine and moving your files across, clearing out a computer that has slowed to a crawl, getting backups running and tested, sorting Wi-Fi that keeps dropping, and getting devices to work together. We are based in La Porte and travel across Northwest Indiana.
Who it's for
Regular people and small offices around Northwest Indiana with a handful of computers, not an IT department. An office moving files off an old PC before it gives up. Someone whose laptop takes four minutes to reach the desktop. A business with no backup, or one that has never tested the backup it has.
What you get
- A plain description of what is wrong, without the jargon.
- Your programs and settings carried across as well as the files.
- Your files moved across and checked against the old machine.
- Backups that run on their own, tested once in front of you.
- A written note of what was done and anything that changed.
- A straight answer when a job needs a repair shop instead.
How it works
- You send a message describing what the computer is doing. You do not need the technical terms.
- We look at it, in person or remotely, and tell you what is wrong.
- You get a written quote for the work, before any of it starts.
- We do the work, show you it running, and leave a note of what changed.
What we don't do
We are not a repair shop. We do not replace processors, capacitors, motherboards, power supplies or screens, and we do not solder. We do not take on liquid damage or data recovery. When a machine needs any of that, we say so at the first look and point you to a local shop that does it.
We do not wire buildings for internet or run network cabling. We do not set up or manage servers, office-wide networks, or systems for larger companies. We do not offer on-call support contracts. For those, a managed IT company is the right call.
Questions we get asked
- Do you work with the computer I already have?
- Yes. Most jobs are about getting an existing machine working properly again rather than replacing it.
- Do you come to me?
- Yes. We come to you anywhere in Northwest Indiana.
- Can you help remotely?
- Often. Setup, cleanups and most software problems can be done remotely. Anything involving the hardware itself needs a visit.
- Will I lose my files?
- Files are copied rather than moved, and the old machine is left as it is until you have checked that everything is across.
- What do you need from us before a visit?
- The machine, someone there who can sign in to it, and an idea of which files and programs matter most. We copy anything you name before changing anything.
- Do you set up a new computer from scratch?
- Yes. That covers the initial setup, moving your files and settings across from the old machine, and getting your email and everyday software working again.
